EMILY CARR CANOE MURALS

In the summer of 2024, artist Gerry Lantaigne led a group of local artists in the creation of 7 canoe murals featuring the work of famous Canadian artist Emily Carr. Each artist was tasked with creating a work inspired by one of Carr’s paintings.

From June 10-15, these artists painted the canoes “en plein air” during a week-long event in Downtown Huntsville’s River Mill Park, where visitors could witness the art being created and engage directly with the artists. Not only do these canoes celebrate Emily Carr’s inspiring art, but they celebrate the incredible talent of Huntsville’s local artists.

The canoes can currently be viewed at Deerhurst Resort and will be up for auction during the Algonquin Outfitters Paddle Art Auction in the fall of 2025. Stay tuned for details.
