The Huntsville String Quartet, or the HSQ, had its first rehearsal in the winter of 2020. Philip Kashap, violin teacher and Director of the Huntsville Suzuki School of Music, and his wife Martha, also a violinist, were pleasantly surprised to find a violist and a cellist in Huntsville. Behn Strople, a violist, and Daniel Dennis, cellist, it turned out, were also eager to play chamber music. Together they have formed a convivial, intergenerational string quartet, a harmonious combination of musical backgrounds and experience. In the short time they have been together they have performed some of the greatest quartets including those of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Dvorak, Ravel, and Barber. They have performed on the Huntsville Festival of the Arts summer concerts, and in a series of concerts held at the home of the Huntsville Suzuki School of Music, Bethel Church, and at the Huntsville Public Library. The HSQ is thrilled to be part of the Huntsville Festival of the Arts again this summer.
