MICHAEL KAESHAMMER

April 14, 2025

EXPERIENCE MICHAEL KAESHAMMER’S DAZZLING PIANO MASTERY AND INFECTIOUS POSITIVITY

Michael Kaeshammer isn’t so much a piano player as a piano whisperer, a master musician and songwriter able to coax dazzling, kaleidoscopic sounds from his instrument in a way few can rival. That gift powers Turn It Up, Kaeshammer’s superb 15th album, broadly described as “eclectic yet accessible jazz-based pop” though, as with all Kaeshammer’s music, far more expansive than one simple description can possibly illustrate. Across a brilliant, globe-trotting career highlighted by nine tours of China, three appearances at the Olympics, and countless shows opposite international superstars, the German-born, B.C.-based Kaeshammer has electrified audiences with his indelible repertoire and consistently positive outlook on life which infuses his lyrics. “I am a very positive person,” confirms the seven time JUNO Award nominee and unabashed foodie, who hosts cooking show Kaeshammer’s Kitchen on Vancouver Island’s CHEK TV. “I really love playing shows and being on-stage. If Turn It Up helps me to do more of that, then I’m all in. Music is my favourite thing to do.”

KUNÉ- CANADA’S GLOBAL ORCHESTRA

April 12, 2025

A ONE-OF-A-KIND MUSICAL EXPERIENCE CELEBRATING CANADA’S CULTURAL DIVERSITY

KUNÉ is an eleven-piece collective made up of ten immigrant musicians from all over the world and one metis-Canadian. Our artistic practice captures and recreates the experience of living in Toronto, one of the world’s most diverse cities. We play instruments and styles that don’t encounter each other very often. KUNÉ is a space in which to remember where we came from and learn from each other’s differences. Together, KUNE members compose, arrange and perform music that honors our cultural roots and creates connections with others through curiosity, experimentation and dialogue.

In 2021 KUNE became an independent collective and recorded a new album that will be released in 2022 by Lula Records. In this new stage we are striving to honor our multifaceted musical identities and the complexity of our stories as immigrant musicians. After five years of working together and getting to know one another, KUNE’s sound and essence has only become stronger and grounded. Over time, the ensemble has built strong relationships that are bridges between the many rich and diverse musical cultures that could only have come together in a place like Toronto.

LEAHY

April 11, 2025

JUNO-WINNING FAMILY BAND, DELIVERS HIGH-ENERGY CELTIC-FOLK ROCKS PERFORMANCES

LEAHY is a Canadian powerhouse of dynamic musicians and songwriters from one family, known for thrilling audiences with their musicianship, passionate vocals, and step-dancing. Accomplished multi-instrumentalists, their high-energy live performance reveals the special chemistry between the band members through their instruments, melodies and layered harmonies. Crossing genres, LEAHY combines vocals, piano, fiddle, button accordion, drums, bass, acoustic and electric guitars with contemporary influences that pushes their sound to the edge of folk-rock, always infused by the family’s traditional music roots.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

If you think you know what the music of Canadian band Leahy sounds like, it’s time to think again.

Their latest album Good Water brings the five women members of the group – Leahy sisters Julie, Erin, Maria, Siobheann, and Denise – freshly to the fore, in singing and especially songwriting, along with brother Frank on drums, and introduces the newest addition to the band, Xavier, son of Frank, on accordion.

As the songs on Good Water took shape, a new edge to the band’s sound began to emerge with the addition of electric guitars which spurred them on to explore the outer edges of their traditional/Celtic/folk/roots musical origins, pushing well beyond that footing.  This trajectory led the band to work under the sharp, exacting hand of Grammy-winning Canadian producer David Bottrill (Peter Gabriel, Rush, Smashing Pumpkins, Afro Celt Sound System), who brought an additional new intensity to the sonic palette. The result is a wide-ranging collection of songs that newly ignite the many musical influences that motivate the band members – from rock to choral, country to classical, and beyond.

As an example, the first single and title track, “Good Water,” is an entirely contemporary song of hope; a timely message to a generation of “people called to be together” in a world stricken by anxiety, turmoil, and uncertainty. Although it expresses a universal sentiment, it’s as  relevant a song as you’ll hear in 2020. With “Good Water,” Leahy have caught the eternal in the commonplace, and captured a feeling we can all recognize now, across the globe.

“Little Moon” offers another excellent example of Leahy’s progressive sensibilities as they bring their roots-based instrumental prowess into modern-day focus. Co-written by siblings Erin and Angus Leahy “Little Moon” was originally arranged for piano and violin.  With the addition of electric guitar (played on the album by Canadian rock guitarist, Nick Johnston), the ensuing and passionate duet between violin and electric guitar highlights the exquisite features that make both of these the “first instruments” in their respective orbits – Celtic roots on one hand, and rock ‘n’ roll on the other.

Besides the two gorgeous versions of the title track, the second track on the album, “Tears,” is an epic, melodic pop song that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Celine Dion album – but with rockin’ electric guitar – that invites the release of the kind of emotions that can “mend what’s broken, melt what’s frozen.”

Over the course of their notable career, Leahy has deservedly secured a place as one of Canada’s most highly regarded musical groups. Their emergence on the Canadian music scene in the late 1990s introduced audiences to the original Leahy sound from which the band’s extraordinarily brilliant fiddles, passionate vocals, and exquisite harmonies were launched to mainstream music listeners. Their reputation as excellent musicians, multi-instrumentalists, singers, and songwriters was (and continues to be) exponentially enhanced by Leahy’s stunning, high-energy live performances. It’s hard to imagine that anybody who’s seen Leahy play live would ever forget it.

And what a career it’s been. Their 1997 eponymous album, Leahy, seized the public’s attention, and extensive touring (much of it as the opening act for Shania Twain) boosted the band to double-platinum sales in Canada. The album also sold impressively in the U.S. (where it reached No. 4 on the Billboard World Music chart), the U.K., and Europe. Leahy earned three Canadian JUNO Awards, for Best Instrumental Group and Best New Group in 1997, and Best Country Group or Duo the following year. Lakefield (2001) was Leahy’s second release, followed up in 2004 by In All Things. To date, Leahy have sold more than 500,000 albums worldwide. They’ve been featured in three PBS television specials – Leahy Live in Concert, Gael Force (with the Chieftains), and Leahy Live from Gatineau, Quebec – and are the subject of a 1985 Academy Award-winning documentary, The Leahys: Music Most of All.

Leahy are incredibly diverse, an 11-strong (with six in the current “core” touring band), multi-generational ensemble that encompasses the young and experienced; men and women; and mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, sisters, and brothers. Their eclectic music combines elements of the aforementioned folk, traditional, Celtic, and roots music within contemporary arrangements – influenced by classical, pop and rock music – into a progressive sound of their own. For Leahy there are no boundaries as they continue to evolve – the band’s genuine love of such a diverse range of music fuels their uncompromising creativity. Refusing to be bound to the conventions of any one genre, defying easy definition, they’ve forged a truly unique reputation.

ELIZABETH & BEVERLY GLENN COPELAND

April 11, 2025

A RARE PERFORMANCE BY INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED ARTISTS CELEBRATING A LEGACY OF LOVE, MUSIC AND THE POWER OF ART TO CHANGE LIVES

IMPORTANT NOTE: In consideration of the health of the artists, masking will be mandatory during the performance

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Beverly and Elizabeth Glenn-Copeland are multi-disciplinary artists who have been actively collaborating since they met as friends in 1992. They married in 2009 and shortly afterwards, moved east to the Acadian Coast. There they opened a theatre school dedicated to community building: a core vision for both. For Glenn and Elizabeth, returning to the Algonquin Theatre is a full circle moment. Though they had been friends since ’92, they got together as a couple in the spring of 2007 and their first live performance as a couple took place at the Algonquin Theatre in Dec. of 2007 in the show ‘The Luminous Dark’ produced by Huntsville’s own Meg Jordan.

Glenn (as he likes to be called) is a beloved Canadian black, trans elder whose work for most of his life lived in the shadows. Only in the last decade has his work been given the attention it deserves. His discography includes the iconic album, Keyboard Fantasies – inspired by a profound relationship with nature, an obsession with science fiction and some of the earliest drum-machines and synthesizers, It wasn’t until 2016, when Keyboard Fantasies was discovered by a revered Japanese record-store owner, that the magnitude of Glenn’s musical gifts to us all was ‘discovered’. Glenn was given an honourary doctorate by the University of Toronto for not only his musical legacy, but for his ‘resolute advocacy on behalf of black, Indigenous and queer culture’. His 2023 release, The Ones Ahead is another high point in a career that has defied categorisation.

Elizabeth is a theater artist, writer, producer and arts educator whose work over the past forty-plus years evolved at the intersection of arts and activism. Her early years saw her touring with Second City, storytelling at the Canadian National Exhibition and dancing and singing as the ‘Witch’ in Hansel and Gretl with the Honolulu Symphony, to name a few. Her book, ‘Jazz: Nature’s Improvisation’ was shortlisted for the 2015 ReLit Award, and her book of narrative eco-poetry, “Daring to Hope at the Cliff’s Edge” evolved out of her year-long residency at the Joggins Fossil Institute: a UNESCO world heritage site on the might Bay of Fundy. Elizabeth co-produced and performed in Glenn’s recent tour.

Glenn and Elizabeth’s love for working with children and youth have been a constant throughout their lives. As an artist facilitator with Learning through the Arts, ArtsSmarts and artsnb, Elizabeth developed and facilitated programs to support children and youth with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and more recently, those suffering from climate anxiety. Glenn appeared as regular guest ‘Beverly’ on the beloved Canadian children’s TV show Mr. Dress-up for nearly 30 years, wrote for Sesame Street and Shining Times Station, and toured his original shows around Ontario. Together with Elizabeth, they have completed more than a dozen artist residencies in schools and community settings in New Brunswick and Ontario.

This power couple first met in 1992 through shared artistic community, and the flame of their collaborations began to shine shortly after, continuing to this day. For the last five years, Elizabeth has been her husband’s primary caretaker. After being displaced during the pandemic, which saw them move six times across three provinces in five years, Elizabeth and Glenn now live in Hamilton, Ontario where they are busy working on a book, a short film, a play and more. Keep an eye out for Glenn’s new music later in 2025.

Both Glenn and Elizabeth believe in the power of art to change lives. Their work speaks of that belief.

MATT ANDERSEN

April 10, 2025

RAW BLUES-ROCK, ROLLICKING AMERICANA, THOUGHTFUL FOLK, AND ECSTATIC GOSPEL

WITH SPECIAL GUEST STEVE MARRINER

ABOUT MATT ANDERSEN
When Matt Andersen steps on stage, he brings a lifetime of music to every note he plays. His latest album, The Big Bottle of Joy, is all about hard-won celebration; a dozen songs infused with raw blues-rock, rollicking Americana, thoughtful folk, and ecstatic gospel. Andersen’s stage presence is informed by decades of cutting his teeth in dusty clubs, dim-lit bars, and grand theatres all over the world, delivering soulful performances that run the gamut from intimate to wall-shaking. In the studio, he’s always brought the same attention to detail and commitment to craft as he has to his live show, and the result – a multi-faceted and poignant body of work – has led him to amass over 28 million streams on Spotify and 26 million views on YouTube.

In addition to headlining major festivals, clubs and theatres throughout North America, Europe, and Australia, he has shared the stage and toured with Marcus King, Beth Hart, Marty Stuart, Greg Allman, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Randy Bachman, Serena Ryder, Tab Benoit, and more.

Andersen nabbed the 2013 and 2016 European Blues Awards for Best Solo/Acoustic Act, was the first ever Canadian to take home top honours in the solo category at the 2010 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, won the CIMA Road Gold award in 2015, and has won multiple Maple Blues Awards.

ABOUT STEVE MARRINER

From harmonica to baritone guitar, from frontman to producer, Steve Marriner has spent over two decades shaping the sound of modern blues. With two JUNO Awards for his work with MonkeyJunk, a decade spent touring with Colin James, and guest appearances with bona fide blues legends like Buddy Guy and Jimmie Vaughan, Marriner has become one of Canada’s most versatile and respected musicians.

Marriner’s approach to blending blues, rock, and roots music has made him a sought-after collaborator and a formidable solo artist. His previous album, Hope Dies Last, earned a 2022 JUNO nomination. With Hear My Heart, his upcoming full-length album, Marriner continues to push boundaries, proving that the blues isn’t just tradition—it’s alive, electric, and constantly evolving.

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR

December 4, 2024

TIMELESS ROCK OPERA RETURNS TO THE ALGONQUIN THEATRE STAGE AFTER 2O YEARS!

Jesus Christ Superstar was the first musical written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to be produced for the professional stage, and has wowed audiences for over 50 years. Loosely based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Superstar follows the last week of Jesus Christ’s life. The story, told entirely through song, explores the personal relationships and struggles between Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene, his disciples, his followers and the Roman Empire. The iconic 1970s rock score contains such well-known numbers as “Superstar,” “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and “Gethsemane.”, and in addition to receiving countless awards and nominations, was made into a feature film in 1973.

Co-Directors Sherisse McGuey, Kasey Stephan and Louis Tusz have brought together an incredible team of over 60 talented local performers, crew members and musicians. This year’s musical is particularly significant as Jesus Christ Superstar was the first musical to be performed at the Algonquin Theatre in 2005 after its opening, and this year’s production will contribute to the planned celebrations for the 20th anniversary of its opening.

Content Warning: This play contains scenes of violence and a death by suicide that may be distressing to some audiences.

Recommended for Ages 12 and up.

DONOVAN WOODS: LIVING WELL TOUR

October 23, 2024

Masterful Singer-Songwriter Returns to Huntsville!

WITH SPECIAL GUEST BILLY RAFFOUL

Donovan Woods has partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 per ticket goes to supporting The Unison Fund and their work to provide counseling and emergency relief services to the Canadian music community.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Since he released his first album a decade ago, singer-songwriter Donovan Woods’ blend of folk, country and pop has resonated with audiences all over the world. In recent years, the acclaimed, award-winning singer-songwriter has seen his profile grow with his breakthrough album, Without People.

Touring behind (2020’s) Without People saw Woods play to his largest audiences to date. That included a stint opening for New Jersey-based retro rockers Gaslight Anthem on their recent reunion tour.

Throughout his distinguished career, Donovan Woods has built a devoted following who cling to the acclaimed songwriter’s every word. Never one to mince words, Woods is one of music’s most vulnerable storytellers and on his forthcoming studio album, Donovan takes that a step further. Honest and unflinching, on Things Were Never Good If They’re Not Good Now, his upcoming seventh studio album, Woods takes a long look inside and isn’t necessarily thrilled with what he sees. For an artist who isn’t afraid to bear his soul, this is as emotionally gritty as he has ever been.

Long known as a masterful storyteller, Woods is at his absolute best on Things Were Never Good If They’re Not Good Now. Across the album’s 12 sparse, intimate songs, Woods finds himself reflecting on the ups and downs he has been through since 2020. His writing allowed him to open up and address the complexities of life that he has been going through.

The album, he notes, serves as “a funeral to the life he was living.”

Sonically, Woods decided to take a different approach.

“We had our boundaries and made things sound beautiful within them,” he says. “And what’s left is scrappier than Without People, but I feel like moments of creation are much more accessible on this record.”

Many of the songs that comprise Things Were Never Good If They’re Not Good Now focus on the intricacies of friendships and relationships, and looking at the little moments in life. Co-produced with longtime collaborator James Bunton over much of 2023, the album’s delicate nature is reflected in its lyrics.

The psychology of people’s actions always fascinated Woods and informs much of Things Were Never Good If They’re Not Good Now. Focusing on happy, party feelings doesn’t appeal to him.

Once he gets down these darker paths (“It was a warts and all album in a way that I never had done before”), which he admits can be uncomfortable, the songs flow and are universal.

In particular, on the heart-wrenching “Rosemary”. Co-written with Connor Seidel, “Rosemary” contemplates what happens in the aftermath of a heated argument. “Have you ever had a fight by text message? And it’s long, and existential,” he says. “Someone did something wrong and maybe that’s it.” Continuing, he explains that “Rosemary” is about “finally admitting all your faults, showing your actual self and asking, can you still love me? And really wanting an answer either way.”

Not everything is doom and gloom.

On “When Our Friends Come Over,” Woods sings lovingly about a couple who rediscover their affection for one another. Featuring Madi Diaz on vocals, the song highlights how two partners are able to appreciate each other in the presence of others. Even though they’re going through a rocky patch, Woods shows how even the tiniest of gestures are the true signs of love.

Throughout an album of heart wrenching songs, none hit harder than “Back for the Funeral.” Taking place in a small town, a group of friends who haven’t seen each other in years return to memorialize a schoolmate after they overdosed on pills.

“There’s so much writing done about being back in your hometown and what it does to you,” Woods explains. “But there’s the idea that you only go there with bad news—which can be true—and what it does to your feelings about your hometown.”

However, the song poignantly shows that even though someone may return to their hometown for unfortunate reasons, reconnecting with old friends is a positive byproduct of the circumstance.

As Woods continues to work on himself, Things Were Never Good If They’re Not Good Now is the portrait of a songwriter at his creative best. Addressing the truths and pains of life is never easy, and here, he does so in a way that’s brutally honest. After all, that’s what great songwriters do.

ALAN DOYLE: WELCOME HOME TOUR

September 19, 2024

THE PRIDE OF NEWFOUNDLAND COMES BACK TO HUNTSVILLE FOR A NIGHT OF GREAT MUSIC AND FUN

THIS CONCERT IS SOLD OUT. CLICK HERE TO BE PLACED ON THE WAITING LIST.

ABOUT THE ALBUM

Expect the unexpected from Welcome Home, Alan Doyle’s fourth full-length solo studio album and 20th overall. While upholding his status as a perennial merrymaker — a reputation burnished by his years with acclaimed folk-pop combo Great Big Sea — the new album also finds the multifaceted singer songwriter and 14-time JUNO Award nominee exploring novel sonic terrain. Alongside marquee co-writers Jimmy Rankin, Donovan Woods, and Hollywood actor Oscar Isaac (yep, of Star Wars fame), Doyle presents nine original songs that are both typically buoyant and surprisingly intimate, what Doyle refers to as “the lower and slower: the lower part of my vocal range and the slower songs. I’m letting myself do that for the first time on this record,” which he cut in Montreal with producer-engineer Marcus Paquin. Doyle’s CV is extensive — he is a thrice-published author, a film and TV actor-producer with multiple major credits, and the co-producer of the recently released, 20-song Ron Hynes tribute album, Sonny Don’t Go Away. Yet the wildly popular musician from Petty Harbour, Newfoundland remains most electrifying before a live audience, abetted by his ace band. “I am the luckiest guy in the world,” Doyle says. “It’s such a privilege to stand among those players on stage.”

WITH SPECIAL GUEST FORTUNATE ONES

Out of a period of isolation, introspection, and honesty, emerges That Was You and Me, the new album from Fortunate Ones.

With lush harmonies rising out of warm acoustic sounds, That Was You and Me finds Fortunate Ones reflecting on life, loss, grief, and hard times, and ultimately choosing love

YES YES YES by Eleanor Bishop & Karin McCracken

September 9, 2024

Part confession, part documentary, part open conversation, Yes Yes Yes is a theatre show created for young people to explore the knotty but very necessary topics of healthy relationships, consent, and desire

“…funny, thoughtful and entirely relatable….I can’t recommend this highly enough; it should be
a must for teens and their caregivers.” NZ Herald

Part documentary, part confession, part open conversation, Yes, Yes, Yes is a theatre show created specifically for young adults. Exploring the knotty and necessary topics of healthy relationships, desire and consent, it blends audience interaction with captivating solo performance.
Featuring in-depth interviews with Canadian teenagers, Yes Yes Yes is empathic empowering and engaging for youth audiences and carers alike.
Humorous, witty and moving, it sparks conversation where conversation can be difficult!

The result is a funny, generous and innovative piece of contemporary theatre that speaks directly to one of the most pressing issues young people face today, and holds its audience at its heart.

“International research tells us the most effective way to support young people to have happy, healthy relationships is to talk about the good stuff – desire, attraction and most importantly consent, and what it looks like. Young people actually already have the skills, but they haven’t always been taught to use them in sexual or romantic contexts.”
Karin McCracken, co-creator & performer of Yes Yes Yes

Performances of Yes Yes Yes are supported by resources for health & drama teachers, as well as a pre-viewing document and full show video.

HYPROV – IMPROV UNDER HYPNOSIS

August 7, 2024

The most interactive comedy show in the world!
“Hilarious and Fascinating” – Time out New York

LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM

HYPROV (pronounced hip-rawv) is coming to after 100 cities toured, a 70-show run Off-Broadway in New York City and a six month residency in Las Vegas!! HYPROV is “hilarious and fascinating” (says Time Out New York) and is “catnip for those who relish spontaneity and informality,” (The Wall Street Journal). The New Yorker says, “say yes to HYPROV,”!

The 90-minute live show combines hypnosis and improv – two art forms that have mystified and entertained fans, skeptics and everyone in between worldwide – for a totally unique comedy experience that The Times of London declared “a celebration of the human imagination.”Your evening begins with World Renowned Hypnotist, Asad Mecci welcoming 20 volunteers* on stage to be hypnotized. The most receptive to hypnosis then join Colin Mochrie (Whose Line is it, Anyway?) to improvise the rest of the show, while hypnotized. In the hands of two experts, and solely crafted from the volunteers’ uninhibited, unconscious minds and audience suggestions, each show is an entirely original and completely unforgettable theatrical experience.

Whether in the audience or on stage performing, get ready to have the time of your life!!

Here’s how it works:

  1. Hypnosis: An expert hypnotist welcomes 20 volunteers onto the stage. These “Hyprovisors” undergo hypnosis, a process that takes about 20 minutes.
  2. Improv Comedy: The most receptive Hyprovisors then join a world-class improviser. Together, they create an instant improv troupe and perform the rest of the show—all while fully under hypnosis! The results are hilarious and unexpected, ranging from singing opera to juggling chainsaws2.
  3. Audience Participation: HYPROV is the only show where an audience member becomes the star. Whether it’s your friends or even yourself, you’ll witness hypnotized individuals performing random acts of hilarity, guided by Asad Mecci and the improviser.

COLIN MOCHRIE
Colin is an alumnus of Toronto’s famous Second City comedy troupe and is widely considered to be one of the leading improvisers in the world.

He is most-recognized around the world as a star of the ubiquitous comedy Whose Line Is It, Anyway? After nine years as a regular on the British improvisation series Whose Line is it Anyway?, he became a regular on the American version hosted by Drew Carey, which ran for six years on ABC and three years on ABC Family. In 2011, the entire cast was reunited in Vegas for Drew Carey’s Improv-aganza, a new series which aired for one season on GSN. A new hit version of Whose Line Is It Anyway? followed in 2013, featuring Colin, Wayne, Ryan, and new host Aisha Tyler, and is currently in its fifth season on the CW Network.

A native of Scotland but lifelong resident of Canada, Colin has toured extensively worldwide for the past fifteen years alongside Whose Line castmate Brad Sherwood, performing a live improv show. Colin and Brad: Two Man Group has the distinction of being one of the longest-running comedy tours in history. Most recently, Colin appeared at the 2016 and 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festivals with a show he co-created, HYPROV. A huge festival hit, the show provocatively hypnotizes volunteers from the audience and then improvises with them, while they are under hypnosis.

In 2007, Colin and Brad made international headlines and newscasts when they were joined on stage in Washington by the controversial Karl Rove for a rap song during the White House Radio and Television Correspondents Dinner.

Appearing regularly in film and television, he was notably a cast member of CBC’s classic news spoof This Hour Has 22 Minutes for two seasons. With his wife, Debra McGrath, he produced, wrote and starred in the CBC series, Getting Along Famously.

Colin has garnered awards including a Writers Guild of Canada award (writing, 22 Minutes), three Canadian Comedy Awards (writing – 22 Minutes, “Pretty Funny Male” – Whose Line and Canadian Comedy Person of the Year 2013) as well as a Gemini Award (Best Ensemble, 22 Minutes). In 2010, Colin received the ACTRA Toronto Award of Excellence. Perhaps his greatest award to date was for Best Hollywood Appearance at the 2010 B-Movie Awards (Jane White is Sick and Twisted).

His first book of fiction, Not Quite the Classics, in which he uses the first and last lines of familiar classics as a launching and landing point and re-imagines everything in between, was released by Viking, a publishing arm of Penguin Canada, in October 2013. The ebook version is currently available in the US at www.diversionbooks.com

or www.amazon.com

ASAD MECCI
Asad has delivered jaw-dropping performances that have captivated audiences worldwide. He has performed in front of over 1.5 million people live and millions more through mass media. You might have seen Mecci on Entertainment Tonight, MTV, Maxim Online, HGTV, YTV, talk television or read about in the New York Times, Huffington post and in Maxim Magazine. Away from the television cameras and radio waves, Mecci has amazed crowds at Canada’s Wonderland, Skydome, GE Theater, and The Just for Laughs comedy festivals. Even within the confines of major companies like Remax, IBM and Rogers, Mecci has been invited to entertain and motivate employees and management. When he is not performing on stage, Mecci uses hypnosis to help people lose weight, reduce stress, and achieve peak performance.

*Participation is completely voluntary

“I think people often feel like things are escaping them, or they’re trying to grab on to something — happiness, gratitude, professional or personal goals — and for some reason, they just can’t get there,” says David Ritter, who handles piano, organ, percussion, and vocals. “Even if they get the thing they want, it doesn’t feel the way they thought it would. A lot of these songs are about trying to, like, figure out why we’re all feeling this way, and how we can find more peace in our lives.”

MATTHEW GOOD & HIS BAND

June 26, 2024

MULTI-PLATINUM SELLING ARTIST ROCKS THE ALGONQUIN THEATRE SEPTEMBER 19TH!

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Matthew Good is a multi-platinum selling Canadian recording artist, best known for his signature vocal style, guitar-driven melodies, and cinematic lyrics. He began his career as the frontman for the Matthew Good Band, one of the most successful Canadian alternative rock bands during the 1990s and early 2000s.
Rock radio staples such as “Hello Timebomb,” “Everything Is Automatic,” “Indestructible,” “Apparitions,” and “Load Me Up” made the group a household name, selling out shows throughout Canada over seven years and four full-length album releases. Along the way, the group picked up Juno Awards for Best Group (2000) and Best Rock Album for Beautiful Midnight that same year.

After disbanding in 2002, Good started writing and recording his first solo record, 2003’s Avalanche, which marked a creative departure from his earlier work but had no trouble finding an audience. Hailed as a masterful work of emotional and intellectual depth, the album struck a chord with critics and audiences alike and set Good’s solo career on a rapid, upward trajectory.

Avalanche clocked in at just under 70 minutes long, making it clear he had plenty to say, and audiences were ready to listen. With long, complex melodies to get lost in and in-your-face protest rock, his solo work would prove to be the cure to the short and vapid pop songs of the early 2000s, almost prophesying the darker times to come.

With his award-winning 2009 record Vancouver, Good countered the corporate patriotism of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics by shining a light on those in the margins of the major Canadian city, seemingly swept under the rug to make way for parades and celebrations. Indeed, Good’s music has often given a voice to the under-represented.

To date, Good’s body of work includes thirteen full-length studio albums, four EPs, two compilation LPs, and one live album. He has been nominated for 21 Juno Awards throughout his career, with solo wins for Rock Album of the Year for Vancouver and Video of the Year for 2003’s “Weapon”. He has also garnered eight Top 10 radio singles in Canada as a solo artist, including “Weapon,” “In A World Called Catastrophe,” “Alert Status Red,” “Born Losers” and “Last Parade.” New music from Matthew Good is slated for release in mid-2024.

He has never been one to shy away from pushing musical boundaries. Through his music, Good’s defiant spirit anchors a vulnerable, unapologetic outlook on life while offering glimpses of hope and reminding us there is beauty in the world. Never one to bite his tongue, his hyper-awareness of the world around him, including political, socio-economic, and mental health issues, has earned him accolades for his thoughtful and deliberate approach.

As the world, politically and culturally, continues to spiral into seemingly darker and darker places, Good has been there in lockstep, to hold up a mirror to society’s adoration of violence, the hypocrisy of those in power, and the injustices everywhere that permeate his music.

GLASS TIGER: THIS ISLAND EARTH

June 20, 2024

A RETROSPECTIVE CELEBRATION OF ONE OF CANADA’S MOST ICONIC BANDS

If you were a music fan in the 80s, you would have had to have been living on another planet in order to have missed the launch on MuchMusic of Canada’s very own GLASS TIGER. People all around the world joined in the frenzy that was; “Don’t Forget Me (When I’m Gone),” “Someday,” “My Town,” and “Diamond Sun” to name but a few.  Join Glass Tiger with special guest MuchMusic VJ, Erica Ehm, for this “one-of-a-kind” retrospective of the music that travelled the globe. Together they will take you on a journey of the home we call….THIS ISLAND EARTH.

GLASS TIGER TOUR SPONSOR: EVERYDAY PEOPLE FINANCIAL

ABOUT THE ARTIST
And so it continues…the story of one of Canada’s most enduring and iconic bands, Glass Tiger, roars on.

Originally known as Tokyo, the band formed in Newmarket, Ontario in 1981 and spent several years cutting their teeth in the bar scene of the day. With rapidly growing
popularity, it didn’t take long for all the major record labels to come courting, culminating in their signing of a world-wide recording deal with Capitol Records in 1985.

Changing their name to Glass Tiger, their debut album, The Thin Red Line quickly became an unstoppable force, rocketing up the charts to become the fastest selling
debut in Canadian history, spawning no less than five hit singles. Leading the charge, was the now-and-forever iconic, “Don’t Forget Me (When I’m Gone)”, a song that is etched into the very fabric of popular music’s history. The iconic song along with another hit single, “Someday”, both reached Top 10 on the Billboard Charts in the U.S and contributed to The Thin Red Line going quadruple platinum in Canada and gold in the United States.

Grammy nominated and 5x award winners of both The Junos and Canadian Classic, the band has sold 5 million albums worldwide, and shared stages and recording performances with some of the world’s leading acts including; Rod Stewart, Tina Turner, Bryan Adams, Journey, Julian Lennon, and Cheap Trick (to name a few).

In 2019 Glass Tiger released 33. Produced by Glass Tiger founding member Sam Reid and UK, singer, songwriter, Andrew Cole, 33 is an unapologetically raw, mature,
eclectic, statement that states simply: “This is who we are today and this is how we see the world around us.”

From the rough and tumble, rebellious, “This is London”, a throwback to their “bar days” when you simply picked up a guitar, started a band, and made raucous loud music, to the ethereal nature of pop with tracks such as, “This is Your Life” and “Keepers of Time”, this EP is, without a doubt, what Glass Tiger fans have been anxiously awaiting for over two decades.

October 30, 2020 – Glass Tiger released their first Christmas/Holiday offering in 34 years titled, Songs for A Winter’s Night. The album is a collection of songs written by Glass Tiger along with a cover of Gordon Lightfoot’s “A Song for A Winter’s Night.” Songs for A Winter’s Night sees the band joined by such timeless artists as Natalie MacMaster, Isabel Bayrakdarian, and the Steve Sidwell Orchestra. Legendary singer/ songwriter Gordon Lightfoot makes an appearance to voice a very special poem written by lead singer Alan Frew, “Ode For A Winter’s Night.” Songs for a Winter’s Night is heralded by the lead single “Happy Holidays” featuring the inimitable Roch Voisine.

Glass Tiger continues to tour and play for enthusiastic audiences from coast-to-coast. In September of 2023, Glass Tiger was inducted into Canada’s prestigious Walk of
Fame at a star-studded ceremony at Toronto’s Iconic Massey Hall.

Prepare for a captivating musical journey with ONE GUITAR WOMAN, Sue Foley’s new solo acoustic tribute to female pioneers of guitar. Foley’s much-anticipated album on Stony Plain Records was released on March 29, 2024.

ONE GUITAR WOMAN is more than a tribute. Foley doesn’t merely cover these artists’ songs; she absorbs their style and inhabits the soul of the music. Her guitar work is so deep and natural that it seems to rise from the same roots that gave birth to the originals, while her vibrant vocals bring new life to the lyrics and make the songs her own.

Esteemed music writer Hal Horowitz notes in Rock & Blues Muse, “The often spellbinding One Guitar Woman … is an enlightening look into her remarkable talents, filtered through the lens of a more intimate expression of the blues.”

SUE FOLEY is an acclaimed guitarist, singer/songwriter and writer who began her professional career in her teens. She’s released thirteen albums and has garnered several awards, including Traditional Female Artist of the Year at The Blues Music Awards in Memphis four consecutive times. (2020/22/23/24).

PART OF THE NURSERY NIGHTS CONCERT SERIES IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SANDHILL NURSERY

Members check your inbox for instructions on how to purchase advance discount tickets or call 705-788-2787

ABOUT THE ARTIST

The only good thing about not shopping in record stores anymore is you won’t have to figure out what genre to look for Danny under. If that were the case, you could try looking under, rock, pop, folk, world or even classical.

His own self-described musical A.D.D. has kept his music fresh for decades. Maybe it has something to do with being born next to a candy factory, or his ambidextrous brain, but his thoughtful lyrics & charming performances have earned a devoted fan base, multiple nominations for Junos, The Polaris Prize, CBC’s “Heart Of Gold”, and most recently winning the CFMA’s “Producer of the year” and “Oliver Schroder Pushing the Boundaries” Awards.

But Danny considers his career highlights to be the unique real life moments like performing for Jane Goodall’s 85th birthday party, touring with Stuart Mclean and working with charities close to his heart.

In 2015, his adventurous spirit took him to the country of Belize where he tracked down one of his favourite Belizean bands; The Garifuna Collective (a unique Afro-Amerindian cultural group) and convinced them to create an album together. That album (“Black Birds Are Dancing Over Me”) was called “One of the finest musical works of our time” by Billboard’s Larry Leblanc, landed Danny’s 3rd Juno nomination (World Music Album Of The Year), and a sold out summer tour of North America with The Garifuna Collective.

While in Belize, Danny also founded the DM Ocean Academy Fund that helps raise scholarships for a small non-profit community high school. To date, Danny & his fans have raised over $125,000.00 for the school.

In 2016, Danny returned to Canada to record “Matadora,” his most deeply humanist album to date. This ten-song collection explores the environmentalist, pacifist, romanticist, archivist, and space enthusiast in Danny.

Then it was off to the Canadian high Arctic where Danny recorded “Khlebnikov” (possibly the most northern album ever recorded/above 80°) aboard the legendary Soviet-era Russian ice-breaker, Kapitan Khlebnikov during an 18-day arctic expedition curated by Astronaut Col. Chris Hadfield. Once home, Danny’s recordings were arranged for brass & strings by film composer Rob Carli. The result is a suite of atmospheric and haunting songs about the Arctic, our planet, and our place in it.

When he’s not performing he’s fighting for musicians’ rights, the environment, making short films, producing, running his studio or filming his comedy/sci-fi/music show “Dan’s Space Van”

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Madison Violet is a Canadian Juno-nominated female musical duo, consisting of Lisa MacIsaac and Brenley MacEachern.

The pair, who grew up on rural Cape Brenton Island, came together musically in the late 1990s over many evenings in Brenley’s grandmother’s kitchen, which was always  bursting with food, family, friends, and instruments.

Influenced by their maritime heritage, the East Coast musicians began creating music together that had roots firmly planted in their past, but with contemporary and modern elements generously overlaid.  Categorizing Madison Violet’s music is an impossible task, in that one can hear elements of folk, singer-songwriter, pop, indie, bluegrass, and country flawlessly interwoven throughout.

MacIsaac and MacEachern are exceptional story tellers, skilled multi-instrumentalists, and together, perfect harmonists. Their voices soar, perfectly complimenting each other, as they sing lyrics that will both mend and break your heart.

MacIsaac and MachEachern have released more than 10 albums together.  Their latest record “eleven” was self-recorded and produced, ranking MacIsaac and MacEachern among the less than 2.1% of female-identifying music producers in the industry.

“Eleven” is considered their most candid album to date, filled with deeply personal stories of love and loss.

The musicians have received dozens of notable accolades for their work, including a JUNO nomination for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year.  They have brought home a Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Vocal Group Album of the Year, have reached the top 5 on the Canadian iTunes download charts, amassed over one million streams on Spotify, and have placed on CBC’s Top 20 multiple times throughout their career.

Their music is consistently played across Canada and throughout the world, and the internationally acclaimed artists are no strangers to receiving glowing reviews for both their studio work, and live performances.

MacIsaac and MacEachern currently live in and around Toronto, Ontario, tour Internationally, identify as members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and are fervent advocates for social justice.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

“Doing it the hard way for 20 years,” is a badge Elliott BROOD wear with honour. Two decades on, work, life and love have taken the trio in many directions, away from their hometowns and headfirst into an ongoing musical journey through distance and time. Now, after being members of this band for nearly half of their lives, Elliott BROOD is never more at home than in the wash of distorted, evocative strings and stomps that make their signature alt country sound.

Elliott BROOD appeared on the cover of Exclaim Magazine in 2008 as the new ambassadors of a roots, folk rock and alt country wave that flourished in Toronto’s early aughts. Elliott BROOD’s arrival came with a level of buzz that launched them directly into the heart of a vibrant Toronto scene that centered at label Six Shooter Records, where they have returned to release their newest music. Their live show, a maelstrom of frenetic energy and fuzz, has brought them back and forth across continents countless times on bills The Sadies, Wilco, The Black Crowes, and many more. Their albums, meticulously crafted, detail-packed collections have brought some of Canada’s highest musical honours and awards, including an early Polaris Music Prize Short List and a JUNO Award.

In their twenty years, the band has remained fiercely loyal to their mysterious namesake. The stylized, imaginary character has guided the band’s travels over mountains and meadows, and through the more harrowing sides of history. Elliott BROOD has grown into a vessel for the trio’s shared history too, with new songs finding connection and communion in themes that hit much closer to home. With smile lines and guitar fingers long hardened with callouses, Elliott BROOD has been doing it the hard way, but making it sound easy.

2025 CANOE MURAL PROJECT

April 11, 2024

DEEPEN YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF INDIGENOUS TEACHINGS THROUGH ART IN ACTION
Presented in Partnership with Hope Arises

Now in its 6th year, this unique event blends art, education, and the outdoors into a powerful cultural experience in the heart of Muskoka. From June 9–14, 2024, six artists will collaborate with artist and mentor Joyce Jonathan Crone and muralist Gerry Lantaigne to create seven original canoe murals live in Downtown Huntsville’s River Mill Park.

This year, the project is rooted in learning. In the spirit of truth and reconciliation, the participating artists will engage in a guided educational session led by Indigenous facilitator Joyce Jonathan Crone, immersing themselves in the Gifts of the Seven Grandfather Teachings — love, respect, bravery, truth, honesty, humility, and wisdom. The resulting artworks will respectfully interpret these teachings, reflecting a deepened understanding and appreciation for Indigenous worldviews.

The completed murals — painted on the undersides of canoes — will remain on public display in the park through fall 2025. This outdoor gallery will act as a platform for ongoing public learning, offering visitors the chance to encounter and reflect on Indigenous knowledge, values, and culture in a welcoming, accessible space.

THE PIANO MEN STARRING JIM WITTER

April 11, 2024

A MUSICAL JOURNEY THROUGH THE 70’S…FEATURING THE TIMELESS CLASSICS OF BILLY JOEL AND ELTON JOHN

Award winning Canadian recording artist Jim Witter and his incredible band lead an expertly crafted tour of an entire decade that begins with “Your Song” and winds us along on a musical time machine, saluting two of the century’s most popular contemporary songwriters.

Utilizing spectacular visuals on a giant screen behind Witter and his band, we return to the newspaper headlines, the automobiles, the people, the events, the toys and even the TV shows that shaped a decade. Along the way, the sounds of “My Life”, “Candle in the Wind”, “Rocket Man”, “Just the Way You Are”, and many more classic hits create an evening that’s so much fun, you won’t want it to end. By the time you hit 1979, you’re begging these musicians to move back to 1970 and start all over again. With Witter at the grand piano and his incredibly talented band mates, the music is not an attempt to “recreate” or “mimic” the evening’s long list of familiar hits. Instead, Witter unleashes his golden tenor on hit after hit to recreate fully-formed mental and emotional return visits to specific landmarks in a pop culture timeline.

If you can remember where you were when Elvis may have died, this show’s for you. If you can smell the interior of your 1973 VW Beetle, you’ll recognize every song. If you watch re-runs of Gilligan’s Island or Green Acres, you’ll find yourself singing along. And if you still have your bell-bottom jeans and Puma running shoes, then you probably need more help than Witter can provide…

Now in it’s 16th year of touring, “The Piano Men” has enjoyed sold-out performances, return engagements and rave reviews in theatres across North America, Great Britain and Dubai. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the trip down memory lane!

DWAYNE GRETZKY

April 11, 2024

PARTY WITH THIS CANADIAN SUPER GROUP COVERING CLASSIC ROCK ANTHEMS TO INDIE HITS

Dwayne Gretzky are Canada’s reigning champs of nostalgia and a can’t miss live music experience; a curated nostalgia trip that captures the unique joy of turning a radio dial and being surprised by the familiar. A 10+ piece juggernaut that brings to life the greatest songs of all time, this talented group of Toronto musicians ignites audiences with their charm, fidelity and theatrical flair. Celebrating classic pop and rock, from Fleetwood Mac to Fatboy Slim, Dwayne Gretzky has delivered electrifying renditions of over 700 songs.

Since the band’s inception in 2011, Dwayne Gretzky has developed a fervent fan base across Ontario and parts of Canada on the strength of their live show – performing classic songs with faithful precision in packed venues and major festivals, and playing alongside the Rolling Stones, and being offered other major opportunities that belie the tag “cover band” .

When a pandemic shut down in-real-life gatherings globally, it was expected that the joy felt at a Dwayne Gretzky show would be shelved until further notice. Nobody could have guessed that an 18+ month hiatus on live events would prove to be a catalyst for growth for a group whose bread and butter is packing venues.

However it’s been the COVID lockdowns that have launched Dwayne Gretzky beyond the “local legend” status they’ve held for years thanks to the success of two epic live streams. For the first time, the Dwayne Gretzky experience was felt by people beyond a festival or music venue, as the band brought the party into people’s living rooms. Over 180,000 unique visitors caught Dwayne Gretzky from home over 2 marquee livestream events.

Dwayne Gretzky’s audience is now more widespread and thirsty than ever before. As we return to “normal”, Dwayne Gretzky continues to shatter conventions and bring people together in a celebration of the songs we all forgot we loved.

LIVING ON MUSKOKA TIME: AN ALMANAC IN SONG

April 11, 2024

SEAN COTTON AND THE NEW LOCALS BAND OFFER A MULTIMEDIA CONCERT INSPIRED BY LIFE IN MUSKOKA

Want to know what it’s like to live in Muskoka? Embark on this musical journey with “Living on Muskoka Time” by Mr. Muskoka himself, local troubadour Sean Cotton. This multimedia extravaganza weaves a tapestry of songs and stories inspired by the heart and soul of Muskoka: a celebration of the unique spirit that defines this cherished locale, along with the highs and lows for those living here.

A Georgetown , Ontario native and Toronto expat, Sean Cotton currently creates and performs in the Central Ontario regions of Muskoka and Almaguin Highlands. After retiring from a 20 year career on the road and in the studio as a guitar player and harmony vocalist with performing-songwriting duo The Undesirables, Sean has settled in the village of Burk’s Falls, Ontario where he operates a recording studio producing artist, recording his own albums as well as working as a jingle composer for radio.

Over the years Sean has been a sideman for artists as diverse as Indie New Country Artist Marshall Dane, Blues and R&B singer Treasa Levasseur, and Pop singer Suzie McNeil. His first record producer credit was for his longtime collaborator Folk singer Corin Raymond. Sean still receives SOCAN royalties from writing collaborations with the latter three artists.

You can see Sean performing solo from Gravenhurst to North Bay, from Burk’s Falls to Parry Sound. These performances are a highly revered one-man band experience, with Sean filling out the back beat of the music with his feet by performing percussion on a tambourine adorned guitar case and sporting ankle bells on his left leg. He is constantly creating bands to suit all occasions that get thrown his direction. He currently performs his original music with a quartet fittingly named The New Locals.

Founded in 2003 by Craig Martin, Classic Albums Live takes the greatest albums and recreates them live on stage – note for note, cut for cut, using the best musicians. “Think of it as a recital,” says Martin, “these albums are historic and stand the test of time.” Forgoing costumes and impersonations, Classic Albums Live has found success in concentrating solely on the music. “We don’t dress up or wear any sort of costume. We just stand there and play. All of our energy is put into the music. We want the performance to sound exactly like the album,” says Martin.

With 100+ shows a year across North America, Classic Albums Live has seen massive success in performing arts centres and theatres. Fans in Texas, Las Vegas, Florida, New York and central and east coast Canada have all continued to support the series and make it a sustaining, successful show. “We grew while others withdrew,” says Martin, commenting on the decline of concert ticket sales, “We created something that endures and connects. These albums are sacred to people. We deliver exactly what we promote – ‘note for note, cut for cut’ accuracy.”

It’s this type of accountability that works for the series.

JUNKHOUSE

April 11, 2024

LEGENDARY CANADIAN INDIE ICONS RETURN WITH A RARE AND EMOTIONAL PERFORMANCE

Junkhouse emerged from the Canadian rock scene in the late 1980s, quickly establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the world of alternative rock. With their soulful, gritty sound and poetic lyrics, Junkhouse captured the hearts of music enthusiasts worldwide. Led by the charismatic Tom Wilson, this band created a unique sonic landscape that resonated with a diverse audience.

Formed in 1989, Junkhouse was a collective of seasoned musicians hailing from different corners of the Canadian music scene. Tom Wilson, known for his distinctive gravelly voice and evocative songwriting, served as the group’s frontman. His powerful presence on stage and ability to connect with audiences became one of Junkhouse’s defining features. The late Dan Achen’s lead guitar work brought a dynamic edge to the band’s sound, weaving intricate melodies and searing solos into their songs. Bassist Russ Wilson and drummer Ray Farrugia provided the tight, rhythmic backbone that anchored the band’s performances and studio recordings.

Junkhouse’s music was a potent blend of rock, blues, and folk influences, creating a sound that was both raw and melodic. Their debut album, “Strays,” released in 1993, showcased their distinctive style and produced the hit singles “Out of My Head ” and “Praying For The Rain” The songs received extensive radio play and catapulted Junkhouse to national recognition.

Following their successful debut, Junkhouse released several more albums, including “Birthday Boy” (1995) and “Fuzz” (1997) featuring the hit song “Shine”. Each release demonstrated the band’s evolution and their commitment to pushing musical boundaries while staying true to their roots.

Their live performances were legendary, characterised by Tom Wilson’s magnetic stage presence and the band’s tight-knit musical chemistry. Throughout their career, Junkhouse earned critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase, solidifying their place in Canadian rock history.

JIM CUDDY BAND

April 11, 2024

FESTIVAL FAVOURITE JIM CUDDY RETURNS TO HUNTSVILLE!

Jim Cuddy returns to the festival stage with a treasure trove of songs that have become indelible in the soundtrack of our Canadian lives. His extraordinary catalogue of songs continues to find new ways to balance personal reflection and plainspoken storytelling, remaining both intimate and accessible.

As one half of one of Blue Rodeo’s songwriting partnership, Jim Cuddy has one of the most recognizable voices in Canadian music thanks to omnipresent hits such as “Try,” “5 Days In May,” and “Bad Timing.” As a group Blue Rodeo has sold over 5 million records world-wide, won countless JUNO Awards, been inducted in to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, received a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame and Jim (along with songwriting partner Greg Keelor) was invested as Officers of the Order of Canada.

In 1998, in between Blue Rodeo projects, Jim released his first solo album All In Time and hit the road with the eponymous Jim Cuddy Band featuring Colin Cripps (guitar), Anne Lindsay (fiddle), Joel Anderson (drums), Bazil Donovan (bass) and Steve O’Connor (keyboards). Since that first release the Jim has recorded three more solo albums; The Light That Guides You Home (2006), Skyscraper Soul (2011), Constellation (2018). Jim’s latest release, Countrywide Soul, is a celebration of sorts – a celebration of music and the musicians who join him on stage each night.

After an extensive tour in support of their album, Constellation, The Jim Cuddy Band reconvened at Jim’s family farm in Southern Ontario. Inspired by the band’s live show, Jim wanted to capture this energy on record and showcase each member’s skill, allowing them to stretch out and shine. Produced by Tim Vesely, Jim Cuddy and Colin Cripps, Countrywide Soul was recorded live on the top floor of Jim’s barn and kept as natural as possible to retain the woody sound of the barn board room and the energy that only comes from playing together live.

“When we go into the studio to make records, the songs are born out of my imagination and the band contribute their incredible talents to make those ideas come to life. The songs evolve and become part of our collective imagination,” explains Jim. “But it is on tour that they really take flight. We are connected by art. We are connected by what we create together. That’s what I wanted to capture on this record. How much I enjoy listening to the band reveal their imagination and add their creativity to the songs was really the inspiration. How vital that is to me. So as much as this is a musicians’ record, it’s really an example – if you’re lucky – of what bands can create together.”

To achieve his goal on Countrywide Soul, Jim re-worked a number of songs previously recorded for his solo career and with Blue Rodeo. To round out the record, he wrote two new songs and included a couple of favourite cover songs.

“When choosing songs for the album, I tried to find those in which I could change the mood and tone as in ‘All In Time’ or songs that had been underdeveloped on previous records such as ‘Clearer View’,” says Jim. “’Almost Persuaded’ was a song Blue Rodeo performed in the early days. It was a favourite of an old friend of ours, so I recorded this in her honour.”

RED HOT BLUES GUITARIST PLAYS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ETWELL CONCERT SERIES

Garret T. Willie, blues virtuoso, graces the stage at Etwell Concert Series—an outdoor covered venue in the lush forests near Huntsville. Feel the blues vibes, savor oven-baked pizza, and let the music ignite your soul in this quintessential Muskoka experience. Garret T. Willie is an old soul masquerading as an uncommonly wise, weathered, witty and world-weary 23-year-old. He’s about to give rock ‘n’ roll a formidable 21st -century kick in the ass with plenty of wild, heartbreaking, and hilarious stories to share in true rock ‘n’ roll form. Garret T. Willie hails from Kingcome Inlet, off the coast of British Columbia. He’s been through some serious shit and lived through a lot more than most of us have at his age. But while Willie’s back story also gives him more right than most to sing the blues – and at heart, Garret T. Willie is a rock ‘n’ roller – he’d rather that not be the whole story.

AUSTRALIAN GUITAR VIRTUOSO PLAYS MUSKOKA’S NEWEST MUSIC VENUE!
PRESENTED BY JIMMY JOY’S MUSIC ROOM & THE HUNTSVILLE FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Daniel Champagne lives and breathes live music. Growing up in the Bega Valley, on the Far South Coast of New South Wales Australia, the story goes that the young singer-songwriter and one of a kind guitar virtuoso first picked up his instrument of choice as a 5-year-old following in the footsteps of a musical father. He began writing songs at 12, training classically throughout his teens and performing wherever he could, honing his craft and developing the dynamite live show that he is renowned for today. At 18 he finished school, turned professional and hit the road without looking back.

The following 15 years have seen him independently release 7 studio albums, tour relentlessly around the globe, play some of the biggest festivals under the sun and share stages with the likes of Tommy Emmanuel, INXS, John Butler, Lucinda Williams, Ani DiFranco, Judy Collins and Rodrigo y Gabriela.

Playing upwards of 250 shows a year, Daniel is passionate about spreading live music around the world and on the back of a sold out 2022 tour tour, his return trip will include 56 shows from Vancouver Island all the way out to Newfoundland!

ABOUT THE ARTIST

And, of course, don’t miss the backstage area where the magic truly happens.

Following the backstage tour, your students have the opportunity to participate in a drama workshop right on the Algonquin Theatre stage. Students will be guided by a local professional artist who will share valuable techniques and insights, equipping you and your students with tools to make your drama classes even more exciting and engaging.

This isn’t just a workshop; it’s an opportunity for teachers to share the thrill of the stage with their students, and learn new skills that can be taken back to the classroom.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL: A HOLIDAY PANTOMIME

October 18, 2023

A COMEDY FOR ALL AGES FULL OF LAUGTHER, SONG & HOLIDAY FUN!
Presented in partnership with The Huntsville Theatre Company (HTC)

This is not your typical Christmas Carol. Staged in the tradition of a British Pantomime (informally known as a panto), this type of musical comedy stage production is designed for family entertainment and generally performed during the Christmas and New Year season. This holiday celebration includes songs, slapstick comedy and dancing, and combines topical humour with a story loosely based on a well-known fairy tale. This year, we’re sending up A Christmas Carol, the tale of Mr. Scrooge. Bah! Humbug! The whole family will love the fun of singing along and participating in helping Scrooge get his smile back!

CANOE MURAL PARADE

October 3, 2023

On October 21st at 4pm, The Huntsville Festival of the Arts and Algonquin Outfitters presented the first ever Canoe Mural Parade in downtown Huntsville. The Canoe Mural Parade  invites community members and visitors to celebrate the art created in HFA’s annual canoe mural project, and the local artists that painted them. The event kicked off the 2023 Algonquin Outfitters Paddle Art Auction: a bi-annual event raising funds that support local arts & culture organizations.

Leading the parade was the Cameron of Lochiel Pipes & Drums along with 30+ volunteers to carry the canoes along with some of the artists that have contributed to the Canoe Murals over the past 4 editions. Since 2020, for one week each summer, HfA has commissioned local artists to create interpretations of paintings by Tom Thomson and members of the Group of Seven Painters on the bottom of donated canoes. These canoes are then displayed outdoors in both downtown Huntsville and the surrounding area to feature the area’s connection between these famous artists and the beautiful spaces they painted.

Bidding for the canoes and paddles in the 2023 Algonquin Outfitters Paddle Art Auction is live now and will last until bids close on November 13, 2023. For more information about the auction visit https://algonquinoutfitters.com/paddle-art-contest

DID YOU KNOW? $1 from each ticket to the Tegan and Sara Concert on March 31st goes towards their foundation which is dedicated to improving the lives of LGBTQ+ Women and girls? This work is critically important because LGBTQ+ women and girls face greater socioeconomic and health disadvantages compared to their male, heterosexual & cisgender counterparts. The Foundation raises awareness and funds, fights for equality and justice through our flagship programming and support of grassroots organizations, activists and communities that often go unrecognized by major funding institutions.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Tegan and Sara launched their careers straight out of high school, from their hometown of Calgary, Alberta. In 2000, they signed to Neil Young’s record label, Vapor Records, out of Santa Monica, California. Over the course of their twenty-five-year career, they have sold well over one million records and released ten studio albums, including their latest release, “Crybaby.”

They have been honoured with numerous Grammy, Glaad, and Polaris nominations, as well as three Junos for their seventh studio album, “Heartthrob,” which included the pop juggernaut “Closer.” Their songs have been featured in TV shows like “Glee,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Girls,” and “Heartstopper.” In 2018, they received both a Governor General’s Performing Arts Award and the New York Civil Liberties Union Award.

Tegan and Sara have performed on some of the world’s biggest stages, from Coachella to the Academy Awards, and are executive producers of the Amazon TV series “High School,” based on their New York Times–bestselling adult memoir of the same name. They are also the authors of the “Junior High” graphic novel series for young readers.

In 2016, they launched the Tegan and Sara Foundation, which works tirelessly to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ women and girls. This mission is founded on a commitment to feminism and racial, social, and gender justice. The Foundation raises awareness and funds, fights for equality and justice through its flagship programming, and supports grassroots organizations, activists, and communities that often go unrecognized by major funding institutions.

Tegan and Sara have been touring for twenty-five years and are constantly evolving their live show. No two nights are ever the same. The Not Tonight tour is a contoured acoustic storytelling evening showcasing the 2002 album “If It Was You,” as well as an additional set of their most beloved songs. Audience members can expect an intimate night of music and storytelling.
